Questions, stands, or a talk for your club

Matsu Bonsai is one person, so this goes straight to me. Pick what it’s about and I’ll know what I’m looking at before I open it.

What’s it about?

Tip: Attach photos of the whole tree, the problem area, and the trunk base. Link them from a photo service, or tell me and I’ll reply so you can send them.

Where I am

Louisville, Kentucky

USDA Zones 6–7. The seasonal advice in the articles is written for this climate, so adjust a few weeks either way for yours.

Elsewhere

Near Louisville?

The Greater Louisville Bonsai Society is the best place to start. It’s where I started, in 2004.

Before you write

What helps me give you a useful answer

A tree question

Photos do most of the work. I’ll want to see:

  1. The whole tree, from the front
  2. A close-up of the problem area
  3. The trunk base and soil surface

Tell me where you live and how long you’ve had it. A tree that just came home from a nursery has different problems from one you’ve kept for years.

Stands and jitas

A stand has to fit the pot, not the other way around. Include the pot’s length, width, and height, and a photo of the tree in it.

Club talk or workshop

Tell me the club, the date you have in mind, roughly how many people, and what your members are working on. Black pine is what I know best.
